Taksim Yazıcı Residence
First Impressions
Walking into Taksim Yazıcı Residence feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away on a quiet side street in Beyoğlu. The building has this understated elegance that you don’t always expect from a four-star property — it’s not flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place. You know what really struck me? How the staff actually remembered my name after the first day, which honestly doesn’t happen that often anymore.
The Heart of Istanbul
The location is absolutely spot-on if you want to experience the real pulse of Istanbul. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Taksim Square, but here’s the thing — you’re on Akansu Sokak, which means you get all the energy of the area without the constant noise. I mean, couples seem to get this immediately (they rate the location 8.9, and I can see why). You can stroll to Galata Tower, duck into those amazing little meyhanes in the side streets, or just people-watch from one of the nearby cafes. The metro station is close enough that getting to Sultanahmet or the Asian side is actually pretty straightforward.
Your Home Base
The room I stayed in had this nice balance — modern enough that everything worked properly, but with touches that reminded you you’re in Turkey, not some generic international chain. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are well-designed without being over the top. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing — even though you’re in the middle of everything, you can actually get a good night’s sleep. The Wi-Fi worked reliably too, which matters if you’re trying to stay connected or plan your next day’s adventures.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is where they really show their personality. They’ve got this continental spread that covers the basics, but then they add these Asian touches and halal options that make it feel more thoughtful than your typical hotel buffet. The Turkish breakfast items are done properly — good cheese, fresh bread, those little touches that locals would actually approve of. I found myself looking forward to it each morning, which honestly doesn’t always happen when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple of days.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s what really works about this place — it gets the fundamentals right without trying too hard to impress you. The recent guest ratings (9.0 for location) tell the story better than I can, but it’s more than just being well-positioned. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, whether that’s helping with directions or just chatting about what’s worth seeing in the neighborhood. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals might actually recommend to their friends visiting from out of town, rather than just another tourist hotel.
