First Impressions

Walking into the Sheraton Istanbul Atakoy Hotel, you immediately sense this is a place that takes itself seriously — in the best way possible. The lobby has that polished, five-star feel without being intimidating, and honestly, the staff seems genuinely happy to see you. What struck me most was how the hotel manages to feel both grand and welcoming at once. You know what I mean — some luxury hotels can make you feel like you’re intruding, but this one doesn’t have that vibe at all.

The Bakirkoy Advantage

Here’s something most tourists don’t realize about staying in Bakirkoy — you’re actually in one of Istanbul‘s most livable neighborhoods, away from the tourist chaos but still connected to everything. The hotel sits right along the Marmara Sea coastline, which means you can take morning walks along the water (something I definitely recommend). The area has this relaxed, residential feel during the day, but there are plenty of local restaurants and cafes within walking distance. Plus, getting to the historic center is straightforward via metro — about 30 minutes, which honestly isn’t bad for a city this size.

The Room Experience

My room faced the sea, and I have to say, waking up to that view never got old during my stay. The space itself is what you’d expect from Sheraton — clean lines, comfortable bed, and everything works as it should. The bathroom was particularly well-appointed, with a separate shower that actually had good water pressure (you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue in hotels). What I appreciated most was the attention to detail — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and blackout curtains that actually block out light.

The breakfast buffet here is honestly impressive — and I say that as someone who’s usually skeptical of hotel breakfast spreads. They’ve got everything covered: continental options, Turkish specialties, and they’re surprisingly good about dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free options are all clearly marked). The restaurant area overlooks the water, so you’re eating with a view. I mean, there’s something about having your morning coffee while watching ships pass by on the Marmara that just sets the right tone for the day.
