The ferry terminal is practically around the corner, so getting across to the European side is actually pretty easy. Plus, you know what? Walking through these streets in the evening gives you a real sense of how locals live.

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged — they’ve clearly put effort into making the most of the space without it feeling cramped. The bed was comfortable enough (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom was clean with decent water pressure, which honestly can be hit-or-miss in this part of the city. What struck me was how quiet it gets at night despite being in such a lively area — the windows do a good job of keeping street noise out, and Alptekin Sokak itself is pretty peaceful once the sun goes down.

Local Dining Scene

You won’t find a fancy hotel restaurant here, but that’s actually perfect because Kadikoy’s food scene is incredible. There’s this little place about two blocks away that does the best menemen I’ve had in Istanbul — the staff will point you in the right direction. The morning markets are close by too, so if you’re into that whole authentic Turkish breakfast experience, you can grab fresh simit and cheese from the vendors. I mean, staying here forces you to eat like a local, which is exactly what you want.

  As someone who lived about 30 years in Istanbul, I can definitely recommend this pension, since it preserves İstanbul's lost local atmosphere.
  Spacious and clean, with lots of vintage local furniture and good communication, this is now the top one of our favorite places to stay in Istanbul.
