Mariposa Rooms Taksim
First Impressions
Walking up Pürtelaş Sokak to find Mariposa Rooms Taksim, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star boutique spot tucked into Cihangir. The narrow street feels authentically Istanbul — you know, the kind where locals actually live rather than just tourist traps. Once I stepped inside though, it became clear this place gets the balance right between intimate scale and proper comfort. The entrance opens into a small lobby that immediately signals attention to detail.
The Cihangir Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re technically in Beyoğlu, but Cihangir has this village-within-the-city vibe that most visitors never discover. The neighborhood sits just above Galata, so you can walk down to the waterfront in about ten minutes, but you’re also a quick stroll from Taksim Square when you want the energy of central Istanbul. I mean, couples rate this area 9.6 for good reason — there are these little cafés and wine bars scattered around that feel genuinely local, not set up for tour groups. The streets themselves become part of your experience here.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but thoughtfully designed, which honestly works better than those oversized chain hotel spaces that feel impersonal. The windows face the neighborhood streets, so you get a real sense of daily Istanbul life — morning calls to prayer, kids heading to school, that sort of authentic backdrop. What impressed me was the attention to details like proper blackout curtains (crucial if you’re jet-lagged) and a bathroom that actually functions well despite the building’s age. The furnishings blend modern comfort with traditional Turkish touches.
Getting Around
The metro connection at Şişhane is maybe a seven-minute walk, which puts you within easy reach of both the historic peninsula and the modern business districts. But honestly, I found myself walking most places — down to Karaköy for dinner, up to Galata Tower for the obvious photos, or just wandering through the backstreets of Cihangir where you’ll stumble across vintage shops and neighborhood restaurants that don’t appear in guidebooks. There’s something about staying in this area that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary resident.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.5 rating starts to make sense when you realize how rare it is to find a place that nails both location and hospitality without feeling corporate. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward the good bakery or tell you which ferry route has the best Bosphorus views. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you’ve gotten comfortable, and honestly, isn’t that what you want from a hotel? You’re paying for the experience of living well in Istanbul for a few days, not just having a place to sleep between sightseeing marathons. This is where memories form.
Apartments in Istanbul suit remote workers with high ceilings, marble courtyards, and fast ferry access between continents.

Guest Reviews
Owner was super nice and helped us with all our requests!
The apartment has everything I needed—and more. There's a separate kitchen-living area where you can cook, and it also has a small fold-out sofa for guests. Plus, there's a cozy bedroom. The pillows are a bit on the high side, but that’s a personal preference. The white linen is perfect and the bed is so very comfortable.
The internet worked flawlessly, and Ismet was always available to help with anything. If you have a working Netflix account, you can watch movies—there’s a TV in both the bedroom and the living room. You can also bring an HDMI cable to connect your laptop. The TV has YouTube as well, which is super convenient.
Everything was spotless. The kitchen has a stove, microwave, small fridge, and dishes. There's an air conditioner, which helps warm up the room in winter and cool it down in summer. It's positioned away from the bed, which is great to avoid getting a chill.
Cihangir is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Istanbul! There are grocery stores and vegetable shops nearby, and Istiklal Street—the shopping hub—is just a 5-minute walk (though uphill). Comfortable shoes are a must in Istanbul! Also, there are some amazing cafes and unique little shops nearby.
Overall, this apartment made my stay in Istanbul feel really homey and comfortable. A special thanks to Ismet, who was incredibly helpful at every step, from finding a gym to showing me where to exchange old dollars that are no longer accepted in Turkey.
It was my safe place in the crowded huge Istanbul, thank you Ismet, I'll definitely get back here.
