Blue Mosque Suites-Old City Sultanahmet
First Impressions
Walking up to Blue Mosque Suites-Old City Sultanahmet on Akbıyık Street, you immediately understand why this four-star property scores so incredibly well with guests. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the Blue Mosque — hence the name — and the energy of old Istanbul just surrounds you. The building itself has that perfect blend of Ottoman charm and modern comfort that you hope for but rarely find in Sultanahmet. Honestly, the location alone would make this place special, but there’s so much more going on here.
The Heart of Historic Istanbul
You know what’s amazing about staying here? You can roll out of bed and be at Hagia Sophia in about three minutes on foot. The Blue Mosque is even closer — I’m talking maybe a two-minute stroll. But here’s the thing locals know: Akbıyık Street is actually one of the quieter pedestrian areas in Sultanahmet, so you get all the proximity without the constant tour group chaos. There’s this lovely little tea garden practically next door, and the tram stop at Sultanahmet is right there when you want to explore other parts of the city. Couples absolutely love this setup (they rate the location 9.8, which honestly doesn’t surprise me at all).
The Suites Experience
The room I stayed in was genuinely impressive — spacious by Istanbul standards and thoughtfully designed. What really stood out was the bed situation; they’ve clearly invested in quality mattresses because I slept better here than I have at some five-star places. The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed, though not huge (this is old city Istanbul, after all). Each suite has this nice sitting area that actually feels useful, not just decorative furniture crammed in. The air conditioning works properly too, which you’ll appreciate during those humid summer months.
Daily Life and Amenities
Breakfast happens in their ground-floor restaurant area, and it’s a solid Turkish spread — fresh bread, local cheeses, olives, the works. Nothing fancy, but everything tastes fresh and there’s plenty of variety. The staff here really knows their stuff about the neighborhood; they’ll point you toward the best entrance to Topkapi Palace (the one without the massive lines) or recommend which hamam to try. There’s no spa on-site, but honestly, you’re surrounded by some of Istanbul’s best traditional baths within walking distance.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.7 rating isn’t just about the location — though being able to watch the sunset behind the Blue Mosque from certain rooms doesn’t hurt. It’s the combination of genuinely comfortable accommodations, knowledgeable service, and being positioned perfectly for exploring both the major sights and the quieter corners of Sultanahmet. You can grab breakfast, spend the morning at the archaeological museums, have lunch in one of the little family places nearby, then be back for an afternoon rest before evening prayers echo across the old city. It’s Istanbul the way you imagine it should be, but with a really good bed to come home to.

Guest Reviews
Regarding this apartment.
Location: it is very central and touristic. 5-10 mins to main attractions and T1 tram to other attractions.
Parking: Kubilay reserved parking slot for us for 15 EUR/day. It was located 30 meters from apart.
Apartment: It has a lot of great features:
- it is clean
- water, snacks and fruits are refreshed every day
- every day cleaning like in the hotel
- everything is working in the apartment and working well
- terrace is the most spectacular place in the apartment
- air conditioner helped us a lot this summer
But you should understand several negative things:
- it is not for tall people ! I am 1.88m And it is hard to count how many times my head was suffering =). And the most important ! Sofa in living room is too short !!! It was very uncomfortable because of this
- shower doesn't have any curtain. And when you have shower the whole bath is wet. Very strange
- there is no place for all your staff when you travel with family. Wardrobe has only one shelve and tiny. And that's it. The whole apartment I would describe as tiny, except terrace ! It is perfect =)
Also, apartment on the third floor with very steep stairs. But it was ok for us.
Conclusion
Would I visit Istanbul one more time - rather YES, then NO
Would I stay in Sultanahmet - rather NO, then yes. Sultanahmet is not Istanbul. It is touristic place, with annoying restarunts, sellers and not the greatest service, where everything is very expensive. Better to live near T1 tram
Would I choose this apartment once again - NO because of my height =)
Very helpful responsive friendly staff. Any issue they jumped on it immediately. Great communication before arrival and arranged taxis for us to and from the airport.
In flat hammam - great to warm up on chilly evenings.
Double view terrace - Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus.
Great that the staff carried my bags up and down the stairs.
Great housekeeping making the bed daily and replenishing tea/coffee etc
Transfer from and to the airport without any problems. Great host.
The breakfast was very good and the most important thing is the great hospitality of the owner and his employees. Very clean, changing the towels and sheets every day.
Very nice view from breakfast area and, if you are lucky, the pair of very friendly sea-gulls will come to eat from your hand - they are described as the real owners of that area.
A special thanks to Mr. Furkan Çoban who is an excellent host and could give you a lot of tips about the important touristics places, ways to arrive to them and proved also wilingness to support any time in case of any issue. We will definitely book in the same location when we will come again to Istanbul.
