Amethyst Hotel
First Impressions
Walking into Amethyst Hotel, you immediately get that feeling of stepping into something well-established — not flashy, but solid. This four-star property sits right in the heart of Laleli, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The lobby has this understated elegance that tells you they’ve been doing this for a while, and the staff actually seems to remember returning guests (which makes sense, since apparently more people come back here than at most other hotels in the area).
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Laleli — you’re basically in the sweet spot of Istanbul. The hotel sits on Aksaray Cadde, which means you can walk to the Grand Bazaar in about ten minutes, and Sultanahmet’s major sights are just a short tram ride away. But you know what’s really convenient? The neighborhood itself has this authentic Istanbul vibe without being touristy. There are local eateries everywhere, and the Aksaray metro station is practically around the corner. Couples seem to particularly love this area — I can see why, since it feels safe to wander around even in the evenings.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional, though don’t expect anything too fancy. What impressed me was the attention to detail — good blackout curtains (essential for those early morning calls to prayer), decent water pressure, and air conditioning that actually works. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s adequate storage space for a week-long stay. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything you need is there and it’s well-maintained.
Breakfast & Dining
The buffet breakfast is actually pretty solid — they’ve got the usual suspects like fresh bread, cheese, olives, and Turkish tea, but also some hot options that change daily. What I appreciated was that they keep it well-stocked even later in the morning, so you don’t have to rush down at 7 AM to get the good stuff. There’s no full restaurant on-site, but honestly, with all the incredible food options in the neighborhood, you’re not missing much.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. The location score of 8.9 isn’t just a number — you really do feel connected to the city from here. The fact that so many people return says something about the consistency of the experience. It’s not about flashy amenities or Instagram-worthy spaces; it’s about having a reliable, comfortable base while you explore one of the world’s great cities. For the price point and location, the Amethyst delivers exactly what most travelers actually need rather than what they think they want.
Exploring Istanbul reveals layered empires, artisan workshops, and twinkling minarets mirrored in the Bosphorus.

Guest Reviews
Good location;
Plenty of food to choose from for breakfast.
Hotel staff are very friendly, polite and understanding, very professional and helpful. I had some issues with the room, and everything has been sorted straight away. Very appreciate! I stayed in room 701 and had a sea view. In the room: tea/coffee facilities, bottles of water complimentary, bathrobes and slippers, toiletries, good water pressure, TV, very comfy bed and bedding, good lighting in the room and bathroom. Public transport is close to the hotel. Historical places also in 5 minutes walk.
During the night, it was very quiet in the hotel, and I didn't hear neighbours at all, but the hotel was almost fully booked.
